Accessibility

How could we improve the accessibility of our event?  Tell it here!

Ropecon strives to be a safer event for all its visitors and to take into account the different needs of visitors. On this page, various needs have been detailed, which make the event more accessible to different groups of visitors, and how we are able to meet them.

Transportation & Mobility

Both the southern and northern entrances have door automation. In the conference wing Siipi, there are activities on three floors, between which you can go by elevator.

There are seats around the event area. Guide and assistance / service dogs are allowed at the event.

Read more about accessible arrival and parking spaces in our arrival instructions.

Allergies

Smoking takes place outside, in separately marked areas a little further from the entrances.

As for animals, only guide and assistance / service dogs are welcome at Messukeskus.

Food containing fish may not be heated in the visitor microwave.

We recommend not using strong perfumes in the shower rooms. It is marked in the program descriptions if there are strong scents in the program.

Quiet space

A quiet space to calm down during the event can be found in conference wing’s room number 305 from the third floor. The room is open throughout the event.

Toilets and showers

As a rule, the toilets are for all genders. We have marked with symbols on the doors of the toilet rooms, whether there are also urinals in these rooms. Ropecon’s own symbols are marked on top of Messukeskus’ symbols to promote unity.

Accessible toilets can be found in Messukeskus in the conference wing, Lasigalleria, and nearby Alagalleria. Accessible toilet facilities are marked on the Messukeskus map with a wheelchair symbol.

There are enough toilets in different parts of the Messukeskus so that there should not be queues.

We have two shower facilities. These are divided into spaces for women and non-binaries, and for men and non-binaries. Both shower rooms have separate booths for those who want more peace.

The make-up facilities are located next to the shower facilities.

Hearing support

All the organizers of the speech program have been advised to speak into the microphone so that the voice can be heard better. However, individual program organizers may have a personal reason not to use a microphone.

We have asked all of our program hosts, if their program has loud sounds, or if there are recordings that should be listened to in order to participate in the program. If there are any accessibility issues on a program, they are marked in the program guide.

There are earplugs at the accommodation. However, if you know you need them, we recommend bringing your own.

Visual accommodations

Guide and assistance / service dogs are allowed at the event. The walkways are wide enough to walk even with a white stick.

Efforts have been made to make the instructions as clear as possible.

We have asked all of our program hosts, if their program has poor lighting or is organized in darkness, if the program requires reading long texts, or if the materials are challenging for the color blind. If there are any accessibility issues on a program, they are marked in the program guide.

Program

We have asked all of our program hosts, if their program has content warnings, as well as themes related to disability. If there are any content warnings on a program, they are marked in the program guide. You can read more about the topic on our blog.

Harassment

The organizers of Ropecon want to guarantee all participants a safe space and thus a pleasant experience, both in the physical event and on the event’s remote platforms. You can read more about our anti-harassment policy here.
